YSG Two Day Visit April 2023
June 17, 2023We had a really interesting morning with Matt Carr from Cumbria Amphibian and Reptile Group (CARG) learning about the different species in the UK and what we might expect to find at Garsdale Pike. We then went out onto the pastures and put down around 20 felts which will attract frogs, toads, lizards and maybe adders who like to shelter under them, so that we can record what species we have and where. Matt will come back at for our next site visit at the end of April to check the felts and help us record our findings.
As you can see, the weather was a lot better than our last visits – but only in the morning!!

In the afternoon we split into two groups and put out three camera traps in different locations to record different species. We had all sorts of weather – sun, snow, hail, wind …. The joys of a Cumbrian spring!!
.

We ended the day with a farm visit, where our group learnt about lambing and two of our group helped to deliver a lamb which was coming backwards!
We also heard about Farmer Network and other farmers in the dale who are creating wood pasture 🙂
