YSG Site Visit February 2025
March 2, 2025A small group of our YSG made it to WGP for this site visit and we have a really interesting day testing soil biodiversity using some of the Regan Indicators – this is just the start of what will be some very useful research. A work in progress!

Our day focused on comparing soil biodiversity in the pig, cow and sheep grazed pastures – there was nothing apart of earthworms in the sheep grazed areas, while both the pig and cow grazed areas were full of a range of invertebrates – which we now need to learn how to ID

We also checked the difference in biodiversity in cow and sheep dung – again nothing living in sheep and lots in the cowpats and a lot more

The knife and fork were used after lunch !!

Filing down some pipe to test the speed of water absorption on the different pastures

Testing water absorption

The cowpats were impressively teaming with life!

Ponds we dug earlier in the year are looking good and well settled into the landscape

We found quite a few wax caps
